Services offered to Victims of Domestic Abuse

Individual Services

• Intake Services: The Department of Counselling Services offers a clear and supportive intake process for new clients. Referrals are accepted via email, and the initial session generally takes approximately 1.5 hours. During this process, staff gather important demographic information, a brief overview of victims/ client’s biopsychosocial history, and conduct assessments to understand their current needs in terms of symptoms, stability, and functioning. This assessment helps to assign the most appropriate level of care (High, Moderate, or Low) to best support their well-being. • Crisis Management and Victim Advocacy: Victims of domestic abuse accessing intervention services receive crisis intervention and assessment, including safety planning, referrals to community resources, counselling support, and guidance through various stages of their experience. This service is offered at all sister agencies that include the Family Resource Centre (FRC), The Counselling Centre (TCC) and Caribbean Haven Residential Centre (CHRC)

1. Family Resource Centre  offers a wide range of parenting services and programmes designed to promote healthy family relationships and equip parents with the tools and strategies for confident parenting. These programmes are available in short-term, long-term, and comprehensive formats to meet the diverse needs of families and individuals. Contact:949-0006.Legal Befrienders Service Provides free confidential legal advice on matters pertaining to domestic abuse, immigration, maintenance, child custody matters, employment. The service is offered as a walk-in clinic and phone line every Tuesdays from 5PM-6:30PM.Contact: 945-8869.
2. The Counselling Centre Provides outpatient services for those interested in making changes and in improving their lives. Services include: Individual, couples, family and group therapy, addiction treatment, and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Programme. Victims can access group or individualized trauma-based services: RISE Yoga, Breathe (Sound) Therapy, Revive Open process group to address trauma, grief and loss. 3. Caribbean Haven Residential Centre Offers non-medical detoxification and long-term residential treatment services to men and women over the age of 18 who are legally resident in the Cayman Islands. All clients at CHRC are struggling to overcome addiction to mind-altering substances and most also have co-occurring mental health issues. Victims of domestic abuse receive individualized support and crisis management during their stay at the facility.Contact: 947-9992                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            

Community Based Programmes

• ·Domestic Abuse Intervention Training Programme Training for front-line professionals working with families who experience domestic abuse and/or perpetrators. A 3-day certificate training programme to equip participants with knowledge and skills to identify, respond and intervene effectively in a trauma sensitive manner. Offered quarterly and open to professionals in the public and private sector.
• ·Domestic Abuse Intervention Training Workshop Tailored for organizations working with victims and families impacted by domestic abuse, this 1-2 day workshop aims to enhance participants' knowledge and skills in trauma-sensitive identification, response, and intervention Available to community groups and organizations in the public and private sector
• Love Shouldn’t Workshops/ Presentation Community based presentations to raise awareness of domestic abuse and provide a safe space for discussion focused on empowerment, safety planning and understanding the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their families. Available to community groups and organizations in the public and private sector.
• Teen Safety Matters: A comprehensive, evidence-informed prevention education program for middle school students in grades 6-8 and high-school students in grades 9-12. The programme educates and empowers teens and all relevant adults with information and strategies to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to bullying, cyberbullying, all types of abuse, relationship abuse, digital dangers, exploitation, and human trafficking. Offered throughout the year to public and private schools upon request.
• 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (November 25 - December 10) A joint initiative by partner agencies uniting with the international call to end violence against women and girls. Agencies involved include FRC, Gender Affairs Unit, CICC and BPW.

o   Clothesline Project: During the 16 Days of Activism, a visual display at District Health Clinics (Grand Cayman), the GT Library (Grand Cayman), and Faith Hospital (Cayman Brac) will bear witness to the impact of domestic abuse, sexual violence, and stalking. Shirts designed by survivors or those affected will hang on a clothesline, each representing a woman's experience. The project has targeted the HMPS and Fairbanks prison over the past decade.

o   Presentations and workshops: Throughout the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, presentations and workshops will be conducted to increase public understanding of the various forms of abuse affecting women and girls in our community.
